meet the founder

Dr. Jordi Livi
Why did you decide to be a doctor?
“I always enjoyed the idea of learning about the human body and had a fascination for science. I felt that working with people directly and helping them in times of need was something that resonated closely with my passions and goals.”
What is VMS?
“VMS which is short for Virtual Medical Staffing is a company that helps connect clients with talented individuals based out of the Philippines. We provide services in a variety of industries in both healthcare and general business. In healthcare, we provide back-office support in multiple facets including billing, scribe work, medical assistant work, scheduling, chronic care management, and many other roles for medical practices, home health and hospice agencies, ACOs, skilled nursing facilities, and other medical businesses. Our target market is not limited in scope and we can work to match the needs of individuals or organizations.”
When and how did it happen?
“VMS started based on a need to help improve problems with staffing and workflow in my practice. VMS was founded in 2018. We initially started with scribes but found such solid talent in our Filipino hires that we expanded them to other back-office roles throughout the organization. We were able to save money and more efficiently tackle projects that were labor-intensive. By outsourcing, we were able to transform the practice and grow.”
What made you start this business, given that you’re already a successful physician?
“I started this business out of the need to help grow my practice and have more consistent staffing. I also found that this was a way to save money. After realizing the benefits in my organization, I found that other companies and practices could benefit from the same model.”
Virtual assistants for medical practice have just started growing, especially after the pandemic, VMS started even before that, was there an inspiration for where all these came from?
“We found out very early on that outsourcing had a lot of benefits to our organization. We have been doing outsourcing long before the pandemic became a reality. However, the pandemic helped us realize that having a flexible workforce that can be staffed quickly is essential.”
As a doctor yourself, what advantages did you see in getting virtual medical assistants?
“I have personally found that having virtual medical assistants has changed how I practice medicine. I’m able to better keep up on my notes and documentation. I am able to get through my workflow including my tasks more efficiently. I feel less stressed throughout the day having the idea of an overloaded inbox to come home to each day. I am communicating more efficiently with family members who are getting results and answers to their concerns faster.”
What would you like to say to business owners who are hesitant about getting virtual assistants for their trade?
“I understand the hesitation, and I would actually expect someone to feel hesitant when trying a new model. I found that once I started using virtual assistants in areas that had the most need for my practice, I realized they were helping significantly. As my confidence in the model grew I found other areas throughout the organization where they could be employed. Ultimately with time, I realized that having virtual medical assistants and other virtual staff was something that was essential for me to be able to grow my model and my businesses to where it stands now.”
